Additional
Information:
Myrtle is a deciduous tree native to the Pacific Northwest. The
tree grows large and is a strong
dense wood used in gun stocks and musical instruments. The tree
occasionally produces a burl that makes a
growth in which the grain is radically deformed because of some
stress or damage and makes small birdseye knots and swirly figure.
The Myrtle Burl I use in my knives comes from Oregon and has swirly
figure.
The Walnut Burl used in my knives came from an old Claro Walnut
tree orchard that was cut down and replanted with almond trees near
Chico California. The
burl from a Claro walnut tree is a growth in which the grain is
radically deformed because of some stress or damage and makes some
nice looking figure.
