Information:
This
seed pod is the fruit of the Banksia tree from Australia and is hard
shelled and pine cone like. The seed pod is reddish in color with an
attractive grain and has open pockets that I
inlayed with Turquoise. The knife handle made from the
seed pod kind of looks like wood that has measles.
The Poplar wood sold in the United States
comes from trees that are in the magnolia family. The trees growth
range spans from the Mississippi River to the east coast of the
United States. It may not be surprising to find that the wood from
poplar trees was used extensively for buildings in that area between
the 18th and 20th centuries. Poplar
is considered a utility wood and is one of the most common utility
hardwoods in the United States. It is
often used
for pallets, crates, furniture, paper, kitchen
cabinets, doors, paneling, moulding
and millwork.
This
wood
provides a nice contrast to the
Australian
Banksia Seed Pod.
