Additional Information: Cottonwood is a deciduous tree that grows up to 45 yards tall. Cottonwoods are exceptionally tolerant to flooding and erosion and are  found throughout the US especially in riparian zones. Sometimes Cottonwood trees produces a burl in which the grain is radically deformed because of some stress or damage and makes small birdseye knots. This burl wood is highly figured. The Cottonwood Burl I use comes from Northern California and has exceptional figure with lots of Birdseye, cracks, crevices and lots of character

The 6,000 Year Old Swamp Kauri was growing during the ice age when Woolly Mammoths were roaming and was buried by natural cataclysmic events. This Swamp Kauri is the oldest workable timber on Earth. The tree was discovered by a utility company which were preparing to install utility poles and they came across a huge Kauri tree buried in the ground in New Zealand. The tree was removed and pieces were sent for carbon-dating and these were determined to be around 6,000 years old. This particular piece of Swamp Kauri has nice swirly figure, two-tone colors, and has cracks to complement the Cottonwood Burl nicely.
