Information: Cottonwood is a deciduous tree that grows up to 45 yards tall. Cottonwoods are exceptionally tolerant to flooding and
erosion and are found
throughout the US especially in riparian zones. Sometimes Cottonwood
trees produces a burl in which the grain is radically deformed
because of some stress or damage and makes small birdseye knots.
This burl wood is highly figured. The Cottonwood Burl I use comes
from Northern California and has exceptional figure with lots of
Birdseye.
Wenge
is a tropical timber, very dark in color with a distinctive figure
and a strong partridge feather pattern. The wood is heavy and hard,
suitable for flooring and staircases. Several
musical instrument makers employ wenge in their products. is also
reported to be a suitable substitute for Hickory for the production
of sporting goods.
Wenge is an exotic wood with a natural
growth range to be the open forests of Zaire, Cameroon, Gabon, the
southern regions of Tanzania, and Mozambique. It is also found in
the swampy forests of the Congo region.
